What you should know before installing a kitchen sink

Installing a new kitchen sink is often an integral part of kitchen remodeling project. Replacing your old kitchen sink with the new one is an easy way to change the look of your kitchen. Kitchen sinks came in various styles, shapes, and models. There are single bowl, double and triple bowl sinks, typically the third, smaller bowl is usually for a garbage disposal.

Installing a new kitchen sink requires knowledge, skill, experience, and proper equipment. Most top-mounted, self-rimming sinks are easily installed. Undermount sinks are usually professionally installed as part of a countertop installation.

Self-rimming kitchen sink installation

Self-rimming kitchen sinks are easy to install because the sink rim sits on the countertop. The sink rests on its rim, but special clips secure it from below.

Think before you buy

One of the nice things about modern kitchen sinks is that some styles have been standardized to fit in precut holes in ready-made countertops. If you are installing a new countertop and sink, check to make sure they’re made to fit together. If you are replacing a sink and leaving the old countertop in place, keep in mind that you will not be able to opt for a smaller sink without replacing the countertop.
