Preventing Kitchen Sink Clogged Drains
It seems that drains get clogged at the most inconvenient times, the fact is that drains warn us ahead of time with slow drain and we tend to ignore it until it’s too late. Follow these simple steps to keep your drains running freely in kitchen sinks and elsewhere in the house, these tips may save you a plumbing bill (by L. Baird and M. Moore):
Never pour used cooking grease down the kitchen sink. If your sink isn’t fitter with a garbage disposal, scrape food and grease off dirty dishes into the trash so that they don’t go down the drain.
Keep the sink strainer operative by cleaning it every time you finish washing dishes or loading dishwasher.
Give your drain a weekly dose of boiling water. Heat about a gallon of water and pour it directly down the drain, half a gallon at a time.
Use a screen or drain-grate to cover the drain’s opening. This serves as a grease trap and prevents the sink from becoming clogged.
Sink traps should be opened and cleaned regularly by unscrewing the drain plug, which should be sufficient in ordinary cases.
