How to install self-rimming kitchen sink
The most commonly used sinks are self-rimming sinks and surface-mounted sinks. Self-rimming kitchen sinks are offered in a large variety of sizes, shapes, and bowl configurations. Self-rimming kitchen sinks are also available in a variety of materials including cast iron, porcelain and stainless steel. Self-Rimming sink is the easiest type of sink to install. The following instructions are for installing a self-rimming kitchen sink.
Step 1
Before you begin, make sure the new sink will fit properly into the old hole. If your countertop never have sink before, then you should create new hole to place the sink. Many sinks come with a template that makes locating the sink opening easy.
If the sink doesn’t come with a template, create one by laying the sink facedown on a sheet of cardboard and drawing a line around the edge. Lift off the sink and draw a second ling 3/4 inch inside the first line. Cut along the inside line with scissors and you have your own template.
Step 2
To cut the sink opening, begin by drilling a starter hole in one or all of the corners 3/8-inch inside the outline. The purpose of pilot hole is to provide an access point for the saw blade the enter to start the cut. Work slowly and hold the saw firmly to keep it from bouncing up and down which can scratch the countertop.

Step 3
After making countertop cutout, lay the sink up side down. Apply bead of silicone caulk or plumber’s putty around the underside of sink flange. You can also apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the sink opening on the countertop.

Step 4
Place the sink in the opening by holding it through the drain hole. Check the sink for proper alignment and adjust as necessary. Ensure that the entire lip of the sink rests flat against the countertop.

Step 5
Connect the faucets and the drains. Turn on your water valve and check all connections for leaks.
